The House committee looking into the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, has formally scheduled its first fall hearing for September 28.

Committee members have declined to elaborate on the topic for the hearing, slated for 1 p.m. that day.

The hearing takes place as panel members claim they have continued to learn fresh information concerning the Capitol riot during the month of August.

In-person witnesses were not announced for the hearing by the panel, and chairman Bennie Thompson stated that members had not yet made up their minds on whether there will be any.

Thompson said that in next Wednesday’s hearing, “each member will have an appropriate role in the process.”

Thompson added that the September hearing, while possibly not the last, will be the last prior to the midterm elections in November.

The committee has recently conducted interviews with a number of former members of the Trump administration's Cabinet, including former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
