Both businesses announced Tuesday that American Airlines has reached an agreement to buy 20 supersonic Overture aircraft from Boom Supersonic.

Overture aircraft that United Airlines bought last year have been increased by five. The order book for Overture, which includes orders and options from Virgin Atlantic, Japan Airlines, and the U.S.

Not bad for a jet that has yet to become a reality. Boom expects to roll out the first Overture model in 2025 at its new plant in North Carolina...

Approximately 26 years after the final Concorde flight from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, if all goes as planned, the first paying passengers will breach the sound barrier. 

The jet, like the Concorde, will only breach the sound barrier over oceans and will cruise at an altitude of 60,000 feet, higher than the majority of other commercial air traffic.
