Due to an uptick in falsely reported bomb and shooting threats, or "swatting," schools around the nation have been placed on lockdown or evacuated.

Reports of swatting have surfaced at dozens of schools in Louisiana, Minnesota, Colorado, Texas, and other states as kids return to the classroom.

The phoney calls have occasionally sparked chaos and alarmed kids, parents, and teachers who were already on edge due to the possibility of school shootings.

Making a false 911 call with the intention of getting a response from law enforcement, especially a SWAT squad, is known as "swatting," according to the FBI.

Technology is frequently used by those who make these calls to make it appear as though the emergency call is coming from the target's house.

Swatting calls are occasionally made as a practical joke and other times as a form of retaliation, but the outcomes can be fatal.

Local media reports that there have recently been a number of swatting occurrences at schools in North Carolina and Colorado as well.

According to KMSP-TV, local Fox affiliates counted more than 30 swatting events at schools around the country between September 14 and September 21.

"You have a lot of rapid response, anxiety and messages going out, people scrambling to find their kids," Klinger said.
